The Ultimate Challenge

THE HISTORY

In the midst of what would turn out to be a historic track season, something epic was born. The year was 2016, a beautiful day for a District Track meet. 7 fellas came together and had an idea; what if there was a way to determine which of us was the most spectacularly and diversely talented?

Fast forward an hour – ideas were exchanged and brains were stormed. The result? The Brocathlon had officially been born. 10 men, 10 events, 1 Ultimate Athlete.

The events encompassed a vast array of skills, athleticism, and youth sports with each event elaborately named. When it came time for the inaugural Brocathlon, there was a no-show, 2 late entries, and 1 early exit. Nevertheless, events such as Bobby Boublay’s Nuggety Revenge, Barry Bonds Juiced Up Baseball Blast, and the JR SWISH 3 Point Shootout set the stage for something that could truly be great. The Inaugural Brocathlon came down to the wire, with Paul “P-Flundy” Murray narrowly being crowned Brocathlon Champion without even winning an event.

10 years later the Brocathlon has expanded to 18 competitors, has seen more than 20 unique participants, and has started its own endowment fund with the Plain Local Schools Family Foundation that has awarded two scholarships to date. It is an event that brings friends, old and new, together for one day of intense competition and spirit. We are all incredibly proud of this little event we put on and look forward to keeping it going for years to come.
