2018 Brocathlon They say the 3rd time is the charm and for the most part, that rang true for the 3rd annual Brocathlon. The High Council once again spent long hours trying to plan a perfect day, and save for a few mistakes, delivered in full. With an expanded field of 12 Brocathletes, reigning champ Jason Nagy dropping out last minute, 4 rookies, and 3 new events, there was a lot going on. Rookie brocathlete Anthony Ferrell took the Brocathlon by storm, winning with a record-setting 71 points, but there were a lot of storylines to keep track of throughout the day. THE FACTS Anthony Ferrell won the first event…and just kept on winning. When all was said and done, he had 3 event wins under his belt and was crowned Ultimate Male Champion in his first ever try. Paul Murray, 2016 Champ, was Ferrell’s closest competitor throughout, but came up short in the final 2 events, finishing 6 points behind. Alex Nupp and Bryce Winkler tied for 3rd place, with Bryce coming from way behind with a victory in the final event. This was Bryce’s 3rd straight 3rd place finish. Jake Murphy is something else. He is truly impressive. He finished in last place, the Ultimate Loser, for the 3rd straight year. Starting off the day with the Sandy Cheeks Volleyball Tourney, Nupp and Riley jumped out to a 5-0 round robin record, only to lose twice in the playoffs and fall to fourth. On the other side, Carl and Murphy did not win a single game. There were also two herculean efforts, by Ferrell and Brennan, that led to puking. The Home Run Derby was a massive bust, with former GlenOak baseball rejects combining for a TOTAL of 4 home runs. FOUR. In the tiebreaker, Bryce ripped off 3 home runs in a row to take 2nd place. IT MUST BE NOTED, HOWEVER, THAT IN HIS 22ND ATTEMPT, PAUL MURRAY WON HIS FIRST EVER EVENT. Yenny #2 (Connor) STORMED to a controversial Beer Mile victory in a blazing 6:41. The controversy stems from Nupp’s accusations of puking up the entirety of beer’s #3 and #4. AJ Jasser and Alex Nupp somehow, against all odds, were the top 2 players in the Unbelievable Football Throw. Speechless. THE SWIM RACE GOTTA GO. Ferrell and Carl, two rookies, dominated the field. At least 4 others borderline cheated by running in the shallow end. Got. To. GOOOOOO. More controversy in the Wall-Sit challenge. Bryce was crowned best form by Super Fan Davis Bianchi, but sadly, some worse formed brocathletes made it further. Ferrell was locked in, lasting 8 minutes. To no one’s surprise, Jake Murphy had no problem with the Cuff ‘n Cream, winning in a blazing 21 seconds. In Knockout, Connor Lenartowicz, with his scrappy play and hustle, dominated the former Y-Ball Champs. The Brocathlon lost steam at the end, but Nupp won his 3rd straight Disc for a Cure. In Cornhole, Bryce outdueled Ultimate Male Champion Anthony Ferrell in 5 matches en route to winning the tourney with partner Yenny #1 (Carl). J Todd was not an ultimate bro, leaving with 3 events left. We missed brother Jason Nagy in action, but Juice had to dropout last minute to support our man B Nags in his military graduation. SEE YA NEXT YEAR BROTHER.
