Retired Events Welcome to the graveyard of Brocathlon events. For whatever reason, whether it too time-consuming, for competitive parity, a lack of excitement, or just time for some change, these events had to be retired. Bobby Boublay’s Nuggety Revenge – 2016 Who is Bobby Boublay? We aren’t sure. But our first eating competition ever was eating a 10pc Chicken McNugget order as fast as possible, and it. was. LIT. Jonny Todd scarfed down nugs in 44.54 seconds on his way to being crowned Bobby Boublay champion. Tiger Woods Golf Contest – 2016 Changed to a drive off at the last moment, this event simply took too much time and was not fun. Golf is an amazing sport, but it simply did not fit into the Ultimate Male Challenge. Jason Nagy was the one and only Golf Champion. Ralphy “Don’t Shoot Ya Eye Out Kid” BB Battle – 2016 What is more manly than shooting guns? Well, a BB gun is no gun and this event was boring and long. A big fat no. Jason Nagy was our champion. Got Milk? Oreo Eating Contest – 2017 The name of this event was a little harsh, but the event itself was harsh so it was fitting. One sleeve of Oreos as fast as possible. For some, a delicious treat. For others, hell. Jake Murphy GLIDED to a win by eating his sleeve in 51.37 seconds. Semper Fi Don’t Die Push-Up Contest – 2017 Nothing more manly than getting into position with the boys. A true test to see which of us Bros had the most guts and the most glory. Jake Murphy outlasted everyone and actually did a few extra push-ups just for fun. Ultimate Male Beer Pong Challenge – 2017 This event could not retain attention at all. Drinking games are fun, but they simply did not fit into the Brocathalon picture. Gage Feola was the victor of the Beer Pong Tourney. Disc for a Cure – 2016-2018 Disc golf is a great sport and was a great Brocathlon event for 3 years, but because of an expanded field and the Arboretum course changing it became too time-consuming and not nearly as fun. Alex Nupp won all three of the Disc Golf events. A true champion. Doughnut Hole Cuff ‘n Cream – 2018 WOOOOO BABY WAS THIS DIRTY. 8 Entenmann’s doughnut holes buried in a mound of whipped cream, on your knees, arms behind your back. A treat to watch and not nearly as disgusting to eat. Who other than Jake Murphy won this event, this time in 21.2 seconds. Flex your Butt, Test your Gut Wall-Sit Challenge – 2018, 2021 Every year needs a mental and physical battle of wills. In 2018, that was via the Wall-Sit. It was fun and an electric environment. Some debate over who was using proper advantage, but the test of wills was beautiful to watch. The event returned again in 2021 and the competition once again did not disappoint. Anthony Ferrell gritted his way to victory in 2018, lasting 7:54.55. Alex Nupp got it done in 2021 lasting 7:30. Winkler’s Painting Swim Extravaganza – 2016-2019 Getting to have a midday swim was perfectly refreshing for the 4 years of the Swim Extravaganza, but sadly, the event had oversized importance on the final standings. Our former swimmer Brocathletes found themselves in the same order every year, which was terrible for competitive balance. Connor Lenartowicz won in 2016, Riley Sinclair won in 2017, and Anthony Ferrell dominated in both 2018 and 2019. Tastin’ HEAT Call me Texas Pete Hot Sauce Challenge – 2019 What a shit show. 8 hot sauces getting exponentially hotter, capped off with eating Carolina Reaper peppers until someone quit. The problem was, PEOPLE WOULDN’T QUIT. One of the most epic events to ever grace the Brocathlon with its presence. Alex Nupp, Paul Murray, and Jake Murphy all ate 3 Carolina Reapers and were crowned victorious. Pull-Up Contest – 2019 2019’s physical test was one’s ability to mentally persevere and pull themselves up. Not an easy task for some of our bigger fellows, but the competition was strong. Alex Nupp won by doing 26 pull-ups. Erect Tower Exhibition: Use Your Head – 2019 The Brocathlon is a whole lot of physical and athletic challenges. We are all smart, however, so we decided that we needed a little bit of a brain teaser. The Erect Tower Exhibition was a competition seeing who could make the largest paper + clear tape tower in 7:30. Brady Winkler won CONVINCINGLY with a height of 69.5 inches. For context, Brady is only 68 inches. Mickey D’s Hands ‘n Knees Burger Eating Competition – 2020 On your knees. Hands behind your back. Staring down at an intimidatingly delicious McDonald’s single. The catch? It’s absolutely BURIED in a condiment of your choosing. Jake Murphy won in a time of 48.6 seconds. Bob the Builder Engineering Extravaganza – 2020 Gumdrops, toothpicks, and 15 minutes. Build a structure capable of holding as much weight as possible. Prosper. Carl Lenartowicz built the strongest structure, holding a weight of 6.35 pounds. Planks – 2020 Simple enough, 2020’s physical contest introduced straight arm planks into the fray. Alex Nupp won by lasting a WHOPPING 5:15. Coach Bianchi’s “We’re not playing bounce out” Home Run Derby – 2016-2021 This one hurts. One of the OG events and one that we wish we could keep. Inconsistency in talent, long hours in the sun, bad shagging, and bad pitching all led to the retirement of the most electric event of America’s past time: the home run derby. Jonny Todd was a THREE time champion with 9, 6, and unknown home runs respectively. Paul Murray got his first event win ever with a whopping 2 home runs in 2018. Riley Sinclair went back to back in ’19 and ’20 with 14 and 10 home runs. Deadhangs – 2022 2022’s physical contest was a battle of pure will – grab onto the bar and hold on for dear life. Riley Sinclair lasted 151.6 seconds, beating the next competitor by a whopping 40 seconds.
